Official Flight Training Requirements for Commercial Pilot License (FAA)
- Have a private pilot license
- Visit an FAA Flight Surgeon and obtain a second class medical certificate
- Complete the ground school course
- Pass an FAA written test
- Pass an FAA oral and flight test
- Complete the required flight requirements
Flight requirements for obtaining your commercial pilot helicopter license are:
- 150 hours minimum flight time as a pilot that consists of, at least:
- 100 hours in powered aircraft, of which 50 hours must be in helicopters
- 100 hours as Pilot-in-command flight time, which includes at least:
- 35 hours in helicopters and
- 10 hours cross-country flight in helicopters
- 5 hours of instrument traiing in aircraft
- 4 hours cross-country (2 hours day / 2 hours night)
- 10 hours solo flight time, which includes at least:
- 5 hours in night/VFR conditions
- 3 hours in preparation for the flight test
How much will it cost to get my commercial pilot license?
The cost will depend on the number of hours you already have. Assuming that you already have 40 hours of flight training, earning your private pilot’s license, the estimated cost is as follows:
